One of the hardest things to get right in a pub is the food, so it’s a joy to find a place where it’s elevated to the heights where people actually go to dine out, rather than just to fill up because they don’t want to lose any time between drinks.
At the Dubliner they’ve gone to great lengths in the name of culinary pleasure - this is not merely a pub, it’s an excellent restaurant in its own right.
Without being too poncey about it (this is still a pub after all), there’s an integrity to the food. The lamb arrives in a dark, rich gravy - robust with a slightly sour edge, it has impressive balance. It’s food like this that has people going to the Dubliner not only to drink, but specifically to enjoy a three course meal with a bottle of wine. Although eating a three course meal is a mammoth task - the portions are huge.
Most people dine on the mezzanine, designed like a study, with bookshelves and deep seating, while others book for parties, taking advantage of the special buffet menu. The kitchen runs non-stop, 9am till midnight, seven days a week, so it’s a great place to stop in for a meal after shopping or an evening at one of the cinemas in Emporium. And, as this is fine dining in a casual pub atmosphere, you don’t have to worry about dressing up.
